Which Teslas Support Custom Wraps

There are two separate questions here and they get mixed up constantly. One is whether your car can run the feature at all, and the answer for almost everyone is yes — including cars far older than people assume. The other is whether Tesla publishes a wrap template for your specific model, and there the answer is no for one group of owners.

Short answer

Tesla supports custom wraps across all Intel and AMD vehicles, in every market. Your infotainment hardware is almost certainly not the problem. What you need is vehicle software 2026.26 or later, and app v4.59.0 or later if you want to upload from your phone.

What your car is running

Tesla has used three generations of infotainment computer. The wrap feature is unusual in that it reaches back further than most new features do — it is the first entry in the Creations menu that Intel-era cars can use at all, since Photobooth and Sketchpad both need the newer AMD hardware.

  1. Model 3, 2017 to 2021

    Intel

    Runs the Intel Atom unit Tesla shipped from late 2017. Custom wraps work. This surprises people, because the other things in the Creations menu do not run on Intel at all.

  2. Model 3, 2022 onward

    AMD

    AMD Ryzen. Tesla moved Model 3 and Model Y over during the first months of 2022, with a handful of December 2021 builds already on it. Everything works.

  3. Model Y, 2020 to 2021

    Intel

    Intel Atom, same as the contemporary Model 3. Wraps work.

  4. Model Y, 2022 onward

    AMD

    AMD Ryzen. Includes the 2025 refresh and the long-wheelbase Model Y L.

  5. Model S and Model X, 2018 to 2021

    Intel

    Intel Atom. The car can run the feature, but this is the one group with a catch — see the template section below.

  6. Model S and Model X, late 2021 onward

    AMD

    The refresh brought AMD Ryzen, starting in December 2021. This is the hardware Tesla launched MCU3 on before rolling it out to the rest of the range.

  7. Cybertruck

    AMD

    AMD Ryzen from the start. Worth knowing that its template is 1024x768 rather than square, which is the single most common reason a Cybertruck wrap comes out distorted.

  8. Model S and Model X before 2018

    Not covered

    These cars use the original Tegra-based unit that predates both Intel and AMD. Tesla describes wrap support as covering Intel and AMD vehicles, and says nothing about the older hardware. If you are not sure which one you have, check Controls then Software on the touchscreen.

The actual gap

Supported is not the same as having a template

Tesla publishes UV templates for 12 variants. Model S and Model X appear only from the 2021 refresh onward. So if you have a 2019 Model S, the car will happily show you Paint Shop and accept a file, but there is no official template drawn for your bodywork to design against.

The nearest workaround is to design on the 2021 template and accept that panels will not line up exactly, or to work from a plain colour fill where alignment does not matter much. Neither is ideal. It is worth knowing before you spend an evening on artwork that lands in the wrong places.

Templates Tesla publishes

  • Cybertruck — All Cybertruck builds. The only non-square template Tesla ships.
  • Model 3 — Model 3 built before the 2024 refresh.
  • Model 3 Standard & Premium (2024+) — Refreshed Model 3 from 2024 onward, Standard and Premium trims.
  • Model 3 Performance (2024+) — Model 3 Performance from 2024 onward — different bodywork to the Standard car.
  • Model Y — Model Y built before the 2025 refresh.
  • Model Y Standard (2025+) — Refreshed Model Y from 2025 onward, Standard trim.
  • Model Y Premium (2025+) — Refreshed Model Y from 2025 onward, Premium trim.
  • Model Y Performance (2025+) — Model Y Performance from 2025 onward.
  • Model Y L — The long-wheelbase, three-row Model Y L.
  • Model S (2021+) — Model S from the 2021 refresh onward. Tesla ships no template for earlier cars.
  • Model S Plaid (2025+) — Model S Plaid from 2025 onward.
  • Model X (2021+) — Model X from the 2021 refresh onward. Tesla ships no template for earlier cars.

Requirements

What you need before anything works

Vehicle software 2026.26 or later, which is the 2026 Summer Update. Check it under Controls then Software. To upload from your phone rather than a USB drive you also need Tesla mobile app v4.59.0 or later. In the car, wraps live under App Launcher, then Toybox, then Paint Shop — the touchscreen labels it Toybox, which is worth knowing if you have been looking for a Paint Shop icon on its own.

If the menu is missing entirely, you are waiting on a software release rather than doing something wrong. If it is there but your wrap does not appear in the list, that is a different problem and the cause is usually the file rather than the car.

Do custom wraps work on older Intel Teslas?
Yes. Tesla describes the feature as supported globally across all Intel and AMD vehicles. It is actually the first thing in the Creations menu that Intel cars can use — Photobooth and Sketchpad are limited to the newer AMD hardware, and so are Grok vehicle commands and Caraoke scoring.
How do I know whether my Tesla is Intel or AMD?
Model year is the quickest guide: Model 3 and Model Y from 2022 onward are AMD, as are Model S and Model X from the late-2021 refresh, and every Cybertruck. Anything earlier than that, back to late 2017, is Intel. For wraps the distinction does not change whether the feature works, only which other Creations features you get.
Why does my car not have Paint Shop?
Almost always software rather than hardware. The feature needs vehicle software 2026.26, the 2026 Summer Update. Check Controls then Software. Uploading from your phone additionally needs Tesla mobile app v4.59.0 or later. If the car is on an older release there is nothing to fix — the update has not reached it yet.
Does Tesla publish a wrap template for every car it supports?
No, and this is the real gap. Tesla ships templates for 12 variants, and Model S and Model X are covered only from the 2021 refresh onward. An Intel-era 2019 Model S can run the feature perfectly well but has no official template to design against.
Does a custom wrap change how my actual car looks?
No. It changes the 3D image of your car on the touchscreen and in the mobile app. The paint on the car is untouched. This is a different thing entirely from a vinyl wrap, which is a physical film applied to the bodywork.
Do I need Premium Connectivity or a subscription?
No. Wrap upload is part of the vehicle software and the mobile app. What you do need is the right software version on both, and a car that is parked when you apply the wrap.
