Frequently Asked Questions
What is an ISP?
An ISP (Internet Service Provider) is the company that provides your internet connection. Examples include Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, BT, and Vodafone. Your ISP assigns you an IP address and routes your traffic to the broader internet.
What is an ASN?
An ASN (Autonomous System Number) is a unique identifier assigned to networks on the internet. Every ISP, hosting company, and large organization has one. It helps route traffic between different networks globally.
Why does my ISP show a different name when using a VPN?
When connected to a VPN, websites see the VPN server IP address instead of yours. The ISP lookup will show the VPN provider or hosting company that owns the server, not your actual internet provider. This is expected behavior.
Can my ISP see what websites I visit?
Yes, your ISP can see the domains you visit through DNS queries unless you use encrypted DNS (DoH/DoT) and HTTPS. Using a VPN encrypts all traffic so your ISP can only see that you are connected to a VPN, not which sites you visit.
