Tesla Paint Shop

Paint Shop is where your car's on-screen colour lives. It is the menu that recolours the 3D render of your car on the touchscreen, and since the 2026 Summer Update it is also where custom wraps show up. It does not touch the actual paint on the actual car, which is the first thing worth clearing up.

Where to find it

App Launcher → Toybox → Paint Shop, with the car in Park. Toybox is the step people miss — there is no standalone Paint Shop icon.

What it actually is

Digital paint, not vinyl

Every Tesla shows a 3D model of itself on the touchscreen. Paint Shop changes what that model looks like. You can pick a factory colour, or apply a custom wrap — an image you supply that gets mapped onto the car's panels.

This is worth stating plainly because the word "wrap" does a lot of work in the Tesla world. A vinyl wrap is physical film, applied by a shop, costing thousands. A Paint Shop wrap is a PNG file, costs nothing, and changes only the picture. Neither has any effect on the other.

Using it

Applying and switching wraps

Once a wrap is on the car it behaves like any other colour option. Open Paint Shop, pick it, and the render changes. Pick a factory colour instead and you are back to standard — the wrap is still there, nothing is deleted, and you can switch back whenever.

Wraps get onto the car one of two ways. From the mobile app, Creations then Wrap then Upload, which needs app v4.59.0 or later and gives you a 3D preview you can spin before committing. Or from a USB drive with a folder named exactly Wraps at its root. The app route holds a pool of 10 wraps on the vehicle; the USB route reads straight from the stick. When it does not work

Greyed out, missing, or empty

Paint Shop is greyed out. Put the car in Park. The menu will not let you change the render while the car is moving.

Paint Shop is not in Toybox at all. That is a software version problem. Wraps need vehicle software 2026.26, the 2026 Summer Update. Check Controls then Software. Nothing to fix — the release has not reached your car yet. Support itself is broad, covering both Intel and AMD vehicles, so the hardware is rarely the obstacle.

Paint Shop opens but your wrap is not listed. Now it is the file. A wrap must be a PNG, no larger than 1 MB, between 512x512 and 1024x1024 pixels, with a short plain filename. Open Paint Shop and pick one of the stock colours. Your wrap stays where it is and you can switch back to it whenever you like. Selecting a factory colour does not delete anything.
Can other people see my custom wrap?
Only where your car is rendered — your touchscreen and your own mobile app. It is not visible to other drivers, and it does not appear on anyone else's screen.
